Scallion is a slow-spreading evergreen bulbus perennial used as a culinary herb that with a thin bulb barely bigger than the hollow, leafless blue-green plant stem that taste like onion. Fragrant global clusters of tiny yellow-white flowers bloom from late spring to mid summer. Grows best with light afternoon shade in the South and dry to medium well-drained soils. When crushed the foliage smells like onion.
